Pursuing an academic program in modern Economics is both challenging and exciting due to the fact that it requires proficiency in multiple skills. Good training and concrete groundwork can be achieved by combining mathematical sophistication, computational skills, and an in-depth understanding of societal functioning. The Economics Department at SNU has designed its courses to provide all students with the requisite breadth and depth required to master modern Economics. The faculty consists of active researchers who have been trained at some of the best research universities in the world. (For more details, see: Faculty)
The undergraduate program at SNU offers a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc. Research) degree in Economics and a B.Sc. (Research) degree in Economics and Finance. The latter is offered by the Centre for Economics, Mathematics, and Data Analytics in collaboration with the Department of Economics (School of Humanities & Social Sciences), and the Department of Finance Accounting and Control (School of Management & Entrepreneurship). For those who wish to have a broader understanding of the subject, a minor is offered.
The Department of Economics also offers a Master of Science (M.Sc.) and a doctoral degree (Ph.D.) in economics. Both graduate degrees are designed to expose the students to cutting-edge research in economics and equip them with the tools necessary to carry out research in modern economics. The Department has been broadly successful in placing its graduates both within as well as outside India, in Academia or otherwise. Please refer to the Alumni page for details.
The same philosophy is followed by all SNU Economics teaching programs. Excellent training in Economics is imparted which is comparable to internationally acclaimed programs and students are encouraged to be creative, analytical, and logical thinkers. This way of thinking enables them to offer innovative solutions to the problems they face in their surroundings. Additionally, all courses offered are equally challenging in nature and spread across a range of disciplines (like Computer Science, English, Mathematics, and Sociology) which provide students with an in-depth interdisciplinary perspective.
