Subhra K. Bhattacharya received his Ph.D. in Economics from Iowa State University. His primary research interests are in the areas of public economics and public policy, dynamic non-cooperative game theory and environmental economics. His current research focuses on private provision of public goods, theory of optimal taxation and climate change and climate contracts. His work in public economics and public policy is motivated by a very pertinent, and an almost omnipresent public economics problem: correction of the inefficiencies, either by a tax or by other institutional mechanisms, that is created by the optimizing behaviours of strategic, self-interested heterogeneous individuals. He had also worked in the areas on credit risk modeling and investement thery under uncertainty. His research has appeared in Journal of Public Economic Theory and he has been awarded individual research grant from Indian Council for Social Science Research.

Apart from academics, his others interests are art, music and literature. He is also a connoisseur of different authentic cuisines, and movies from around the world
