This work presents the design and simulation of a zinc oxide based thin film bulk acoustic resonator (TFBAR) bandpass filter for 2.6 GHz band applications. Third and fifth-order filters in ladder topology are designed and compared. The third-order filter has an insertion loss of 1.62 dB and return loss of 18.97 dB with a bandwidth of 80 MHz whereas the fifth-order filter has insertion loss, return loss, and bandwidth of 2.85 dB, 25.28 dB, and 60 MHz, respectively. With a central frequency of 2.67 GHz, the designed filter has applications in the 2.6 GHz (2500-2690 MHz) band, which has been identified by the International Telecommunication Union as a global frequency band for mobile broadband services. © 2016 IETE.

Design and Simulation of a Zinc Oxide Thin Film Bulk Acoustic Resonator Filter for 2.6 GHz Band Applications

This paper explores the social quality (goodness) of community structures formed across Twitter users, where social links within the structures are estimated based upon semantic properties of user-generated content (corpus). We examined the overlap of the community structures of the constructed graphs, and followership-based social communities, to find the social goodness of the links constructed. Unigram, bigram and LDA content models were empirically investigated for evaluation of effectiveness, as approximators of underlying social graphs, such that they maintain the community social property. Impact of content at varying granularities, for the purpose of predicting links while retaining the social community structures, was investigated. 100 discussion topics, spanning over 10 Twitter events, were used for experiments. The unigram language model performed the best, indicating strong similarity of word usage within deeply connected social communities. This observation agrees with the phenomenon of evolution of word usage behavior, that transform individuals belonging to the same community tending to choose the same words, made by [1], and raises a question on the literature that use, without validation, LDA for content-based social link prediction over other content models. Also, semantically finer-grained content was observed to be more effective compared to coarser-grained content. © 2016 IEEE.

Assessment of effectiveness of content models for approximating Twitter social connection structures

Identifying the interesting places through GPS trajectory mining has been well studied based on the visitor's frequency. However, the places popularity estimation based on the trajectory analysis has not been explored yet. The limitation in the majority of the traditional popularity estimation and place user-rating based methods is that all the participants are given the same importance. In reality, it heavily depends on the visitor's category, for example, international visitors make distinct impact on popularity. The proposed method maintains a registry to keep the information about the visited users, their stay time and the travel distance from their home location. Depending on the travel nature the visitors are labeled as native, regional and tourist for each place in question. It considers the fact that the higher stay in a place is an implicit measure of the greater likings. Theweighted frequency is eventually fuzzified and applied rule based fuzzy inference system (FIS) to compute popularity of the places in terms of the ratings [0, 5]. We have evaluated the proposed method using a large real road GPS trajectory of 182 users for identifying the ratings for the collected 26807 point of interests (POI) in Beijing (China). © 2016 S. Popularity estimation of interesting locations from visitor's trajectories using fuzzy inference system

In this paper, a generalized algorithm for the physical relocation of the modules with a fixed electrical connection (PRM-FEC) in total cross tied (TCT) configuration of an m× n (where m and n are the number of rows and columns) photovoltaic array is presented for digit m that is either odd or even number. This rearrangement of the TCT configuration distributes the shadows over the array, and hence, it increases the power output of an array under partial shading conditions. The proposed scheme is simple and cost effective. The comparison of power generated by an array with the TCT, electrical array reconfiguration, and the PRM-FEC configuration is performed with MATLAB simulation and also the simulation results are validated with experimental results. The performance of the PRM-FEC configuration is superior to the TCT configuration. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

Extraction of Maximum Power from a PV Array under Nonuniform Irradiation Conditions

Copper–tin (Cu–Sn) intermetallic alloy coating was developed on mild steel substrate by galvanostatic electrodeposition technique from sulfate-based acidic electrolyte containing Laprol as additive. The homogenous coating containing cubic δ phase with composition of 32.6% Sn was obtained, when a current of −8.5 mA was made to flow through the electrochemical bath. The optimized coating with thickness of ∼0.4–3 μm exhibits ∼80% specular reflectance. The coating has a hardness of 2.6 GPa, suggesting a good scratch resistance property. The experimental results also suggest that the hydrophobic surface of Cu–32.6% Sn thin film can be potentially used as an attractive coating for solar reflector application under dusty and humid conditions. © 2016

Electrodeposition of δ-phase based Cu–Sn mirror alloy from sulfate-aqueous electrolyte for solar reflector application

This paper deals about making a numerical simulator for observing the self-organization phenomenon like current filament formation in the negative differential conductivity (NDC) region of operation in a device using MATLAB environment. Emphasis is laid on choosing the appropriate boundary conditions in simulator to observe the NDC part of the device Current-Voltage (I - V) characteristics along with the appropriate isothermal physical models are included for mobility and the recombination-generation. The simulator used in this paper is designed to observe NDC region in S-shaped NDC (SNDC) devices like BJT and similar conditions can be used to observe the field domains in the N-shaped NDC (NNDC) devices with appropriate changes. Dirichlet and Neumann boundary conditions are applied to BJT and I - V characteristics of the developed device simulator are compared with the commercial available TCAD device simulator (i.e., Sentaurus). © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Two Dimensional Numerical Simulator for Modeling NDC Region in SNDC Devices

This paper presents novel capacitor less dynamic random access memory (DRAM) cells through band-gap engineered silicon-germanium (SiGe) junction less double gate field effect transistor (JL-DGFET) using two-dimensional commercial TCAD device simulator. The design window of capacitor less DRAM cell and its operations have been described. We observe hysteresis current-voltage characteristic and steep change in sub-threshold slope (SS) in SiGe JL-DGFET. The correlation between the IDS - VGS and IDS - VDS characteristics of the device during different operation of memory cells are discussed. Furthermore, high value of bipolar gain (i.e. β) is observed in optimally designed SiGe JL-DGFET transistors, which can be utilized for the improvement of sensing margin in dynamic memories. The results presented in this paper can provide an opportunity for future DRAM design in deep nanometer technology. © 2016 IEEE.

A Novel Capacitorless DRAM Cell Design Using Band-Gap Engineered Junctionless Double-Gate FET

The role of die-swell in the stability of fiber spinning flow of entangled polymer melts is analyzed using the linear as well as finite amplitude stability analyses. The nonlinear extensional rheology of polymer is described by using the eXtended Pom-Pom (XPP) model which captures the strain hardening effect present in the realistic flows. The stability of the slender body fiber profile to axisymmetric disturbances is studied under the isothermal conditions. At the top end of the spinning flow near die-exit, the swelling in fiber cross-section area is introduced whose magnitude is governed both by the flow within the die and the outside spinning force. Introducing die-swell in the analysis significantly influences the stability of the spinning flow. The flexibility in the fiber profile at the upstream end of the flow, a feature absent in the previous analyses ignoring die-swell, plays a stabilizing role. However, for a given flow, die-swell implies stronger effective extension than indicated by the apparent draw ratio, defined based on capillary area. This higher effective extension tends to decrease the critical draw ratio for the onset of draw resonance, suggesting destabilizing role of die-swell. The destabilizing role is found to dominate in the overall stability behavior. The stability diagram is constructed by plotting the critical draw ratio for the onset of draw resonance against the flow Deborah number. The sensitivity of the stability behavior on the rheology parameters and the die-geometry has been studied. The finite amplitude disturbances are also considered using the weakly nonlinear stability analysis in order to understand the nature of flow in the proximity of the transition point. The flow exhibits supercritical Hopf bifurcation for low to moderate Deborah numbers, indicating the presence of an oscillatory steady state in the unstable regime. The amplitude of the oscillations in the fiber cross-section area is estimated. The finite amplitude bifurcation crosses over to the subcritical manifold as Deborah number is increased beyond a certain crossover value. The subcritical state for fast flows manifests in the form of unbounded growth of transient disturbances of amplitude greater than a certain threshold value. The die-swell effect tends to lower the Deborah number for the crossover to the subcritically unstable state. © 2016 Elsevier B.V.

Die-swell effect in draw resonance of polymeric spin-line

Recent wind tunnel studies have shown that an aeroelastic system, prior to losing stability through flutter, goes through a regime where the response is characterized by intermittent bursts of periodic oscillations. The focus of this study is to investigate the reasons for this intermittent behavior through a numerical model. The studies indicate that the intermittency is observed only when the flow is accompanied by small random fluctuations. A stochastic bifurcation analysis is carried out to gain an understanding for this phenomenological interesting behavior. © 2016 The Authors.

Numerical Investigations on Intermittency Route to Aeroelastic Flutter

In wireless sensor networks (WSN), extensive life span requirement for diverse application and inadequate energy storage ability of sensor nodes has led to the discovery of a new field for reducing the power consumed by nodes. To increase the sensor node's life period, protocols have to be energy efficient so as to reduce energy consumption in each layer mainly physical layer (power consumption control), MAC layer (retransmission control) and network layer (routing protocol). In this paper, we explore various protocols in MAC layer, and Network layer to provide an energy efficient network. © 2015 IEEE.
