Recent advances in technology have permitted the construction of large high dams and large storage reservoirs. These advances have necessitated the development of new design and construction techniques, particularly pertaining to provision of adequate flood release facilities. Chutes and spill-ways are designed to spill large water discharge over a hydraulic structure without causing major damage to the structure itself and its environment.

At optimal angle of attack, occurrence of destabilizing local scour phenomenon especially around the leading edge of the vane is formed and at this angle vane induced secondary circulation is also maximum. The maximum scour depth around the vane mainly depends on flow depth and flow Froude number. Flow Froude number is more important than Densimetric Froude number. River Brahmaputra is well-known for changing its course from time to time due to the erosion process and consequently wiping out agricultural lands and sometimes complete villages in its path causing immense damage. A study of the bank-line migration based on remote sensing data can play a very useful role in monitoring migration trends and characteristics, and can fruitfully supplement conventional surveying, which is otherwise very tedious, slow and time intensive. Application of ANN technique in conjunction with remote sensing data enables a rational assessment of the process of morphological change with regard to bank-line migration. This enables a better appreciation of the river bank-line migration both in time and space for palliative and preventive measures. © 2004 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.

Concealed antigens from the adult of Hyalomma anatolicum anatolicum were isolated by immunoaffinity chromatography using anti-gut IgG as ligands. The bound antigens were characterized by SDS-PAGE and 2 proteins of 106.7 and 68 kDa were identified. Immunization of crossbred calves (Bos taurus x Bos indicus) with 1.7 mg of the bound antigens adjuvanted with FCA/IFA animal decreased 74. 4 and 52.2% population of nymphs and adults respectively. Besides, a significant percentages of abnormally fed larvae (P < 0.001) and nymphs (P < 0.05) was dropped from the immunized animals. Western blot analysis detected protein band of 68 kDa as the antigen responsible for the induction of resistance in the host.
