Abstract
River Brahmaputra is well-known for changing its course from time to time due to the erosion process and consequently wiping out agricultural lands and sometimes complete villages in its path causing immense damage. A study of the bank-line migration based on remote sensing data can play a very useful role in monitoring migration trends and characteristics, and can fruitfully supplement conventional surveying, which is otherwise very tedious, slow and time intensive. Application of ANN technique in conjunction with remote sensing data enables a rational assessment of the process of morphological change with regard to bank-line migration. This enables a better appreciation of the river bank-line migration both in time and space for palliative and preventive measures. © 2004 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
