Self-assembly of a PdII neutral molecular rectangle via a new organometallic PdII2 molecular clip and oxygen donor linker

Genetic diversity among 48 ber genotypes from different eco-geographical regions of India was investigated using random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) and intersimple sequence repeat (ISSR) markers. Forty-six RAPD and 18 ISSR primers generated a total of 368 and 167 amplification products of which 271 (74.15%) and 152 (89.94%) were polymorphic, respectively. The average numbers of polymorphic fragments were 5.89 (RAPD) and 8.44 (ISSR) per primer with number of amplified bands ranging between 2 to 17 and 4 to 12 for RAPD and ISSR respectively. RAPD primer OPD-3 (9.00 Rp and 0.29 PIC) and ISSR primer UBC-880 (5.63 Rp and 0.29 PIC) were the most informative primers. Out of the 18 ISSR primers 14 were anchored, of which 12 were 3'-anchored and 2 were 5'-anchored. Fourteen ISSR primers produced distinct bands contained dinucleotide repeats. Primers based on (AC)n and (AG)n repeats produced the most polymorphic bands. Based on mantel matrix correlation between two marker systems it is suggested that the two markers amplify different genomic regions. The genetic similarity among 48 ber genotypes ranged from 47.62% (Thornless and Seov) to 88.97% (Narma and Banarsi Karaka) that suggested a wide genetic base for the ber germplasm collection. The study suggests superiority of ISSR marker system over RAPD for studying genetic diversity in ber.

Comparative evaluation of genetic relationships among ber (Ziziphus sp.) genotypes using RAPD and ISSR markers

Transport of essentially all matrix and a number of inner membrane proteins is governed, entirely or in part, by N-terminal presequences and requires a coordinated action of the translocases of outer and inner mitochondrial membranes (TOM and TIM23 complexes). Here, we have analyzed Tim50, a subunit of the TIM23 complex that is implicated in transfer of precursors from TOM to TIM23. Tim50 is recruited to the TIM23 complex via Tim23 in an interaction that is essentially independent of the rest of the translocase. We find Tim50 in close proximity to the intermembrane space side of the TOM complex where it recognizes both types of TIM23 substrates, those that are to be transported into the matrix and those destined to the inner membrane, suggesting that Tim50 recognizes presequences. This function of Tim50 depends on its association with TIM23. We conclude that the efficient transfer of precursors between TOM and TIM23 complexes requires the concerted action of Tim50 with Tim23. © 2009 by The American Society for Cell Biology.

Role of tim50 in the transfer of precursor proteins from the outer to the inner membrane of mitochondria

Deformations of the canonical commutation relations lead to non-Hermitian momentum and position operators and therefore almost inevitably to non-Hermitian Hamiltonians. We demonstrate that such type of deformed quantum mechanical systems may be treated in a similar framework as quasi/pseudo and/or PT-symmetric systems, which have recently attracted much attention. For a newly proposed deformation of exponential type we compute the minimal uncertainty and minimal length, which are essential in almost all approaches to quantum gravity. © 2009 Elsevier B.V. Minimal length in quantum mechanics and non-Hermitian Hamiltonian systems

At sufficiently high temperatures PLD deposited TaC films can be grown epitaxially on 4H-SiC (0001) substrates; at lower temperatures the films recrystallize and ball up forming a large number of pinholes. The growth temperature for epitaxy was found to be 1000°C, and it was facilitated by the epitaxial growth of a thin (2 nm) transition layer of hexagonal Ta 2C. High temperature annealing produced changes in the surface morphology, caused grain growth, and created pin holes through a recrystallization process in the films deposited at the lower temperatures, while the films deposited at the higher temperatures remained virtually unchanged. Using TEM it is shown that the (0001) basal planes of the hexagonal 4H-SiC and Ta2C phases are aligned, and they were also parallel to the (111) plane in the cubic TaC with the [101̄] cubic direction being parallel to the hexagonal [2110̄] hexagonal direction. The Ta2C interlayer most likely is formed because its lattice parameter in the basel plane (3.103 Å) is intermediate between that of the 4H-SiC (3.08 Å) and the TaC (3.150 Å). Given that Al.5Ga.5N is lattice matched to TaC, it could be an excellent substrate for the growth of GaN/AlGaN heterostructures. © (2009) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

Epitaxial TaC films for the selective area growth of SiC

The concept of molecular structure is fundamental to the practice and understanding of chemistry, but the meaning of this term has evolved and is still evolving. The Born - Oppenheimer separation of electronic and nuclear motions lies at the heart of most modern quantum chemical models of molecular structure. While this separation introduces a great computational and practical simplification, it is neither essential to the conceptual formulation of molecular structure nor universally valid. Going beyond the Born - Oppenheimer approximation introduces new paradigms, bringing fresh insight into the chemistry of fluxional molecules, proteins, superconductors and macroscopic dielectrics, thus opening up new avenues for exploration. But it requires that our ideas of molecular structure need to evolve beyond simple ball-and-stick-type models. © Springer Science+Business Media B.V. 2008.

The chemist's concept of molecular structure

dc magnetization and P 31 spin-lattice relaxation rate in the polycrystalline sample of LaCoPO suggest a spin-fluctuation dominated ferromagnetically ordered state. Moreover, NMR data clearly indicate a crossover from two-dimensional to three-dimensional spin fluctuations across TC. In contrast to isotropic hyperfine field, Hhf at the P 31 site in LaFePO, Hhf is anisotropic in LaCoPO. The data of spin-lattice relaxation rate also exhibit anisotropic spin fluctuation. 75As NMR study of oriented CeFeAsO and CeFeAsO0.84F0.16

Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy of hydrogen-doped indium oxide (IO) tubular nanostructures shows presence of paramagnetic oxygen vacancies (VO) at room temperature. For temperatures below 80 K, the EPR spectra exhibit two distinct split resonances correspond to S= 1 2 hydrogen electron spin. Interestingly, presence of hydrogen EPR resonances is accompanied by absence of EPR signal of VO, which is restored above 80 K with the concomitant disappearance of signature resonances from hydrogen. The temperature dependent donor and passivation behavior of hydrogen has been directly observed in metal oxide. This could provide valuable explanations of various VO induced controversial properties of IO nanostructures. © 2009 American Institute of Physics.

Investigating the role of hydrogen in indium oxide tubular nanostructures as a donor or oxygen vacancy passivation center

We report on structural and optical properties of Mn-doped CdS thin films prepared by 190 keV Mn-ion implantation at different temperatures. Mn-ion implantation in the fluence range of 1× 1013-1× 10 16 ions cm-2 does not lead to the formation of any secondary phase. However, it induces structural disorder, causing a decrease in the optical band gap. This is addressed on the basis of band tailing due to creation of localized energy states and Urbach energy calculations. Mn-doped samples exhibit a new band in their photoluminescence spectra at 2.22 eV, which originates from the d-d (4T1 → 6A 1) transition of tetrahedrally coordinated Mn2+ ions. © 2009 American Institute of Physics.
