In this paper, we have formulated Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) models to reduce the inputs in an inefficient Decision Making Unit (DMU) when the specific inputs are under the constant sum constraint. We have also extended the models to reallocate the excess input without any reduction in efficiency of other DMUs. These DEA models and methods developed in this work will help decision makers in developing an optimal strategy to transfer excess input to other DMUs. Liquidity is an important factor for smooth trading for all assets including equities traded in the stock markets. Stock exchanges enable buyers and sellers to come together for transaction and in the process reduce the search cost and friction. Higher liquidity motivates more investors to participate in the stock market. Introduction of derivatives of the underlying stock increases the opportunity set available to investors and hence affect the liquidity of the underlying stock. This study examines the impact of derivative trading on the liquidity of underlying stock using price impact measure of liquidity. The price impact measure of liquidity, which actually measures illiquidity, is given by the average daily ratio of absolute return of the stock to the daily volume over a period of time. The advantage of this measure is that it is based on the observed price changes associated with trades. Two time periods have been chosen to examine the short-term and long-term impact of derivative listing on liquidity of underlying stocks. The first time period is one month pre- and post-listing and the second time period is one year pre- and post-listing. The results of this study show a shift in the volume from cash market to derivative market, decline in the number of trades, and lower volatility after the introduction of derivative trading. The illiquidity of the stocks also increased in the short run after the introduction of derivative trading and this is definitely not a desirable outcome of introduction of derivative trading. The sample has been divided into four quartiles on the basis of pre-liquidity levels to examine whether the change in liquidity is affected by the pre liquidity levels of the underlying stock. The results show that the impact of derivative trading on long-term liquidity of the market depends on the level of liquidity prior to the introduction of derivative trading. They also show an improvement in long-term liquidity after derivative trading when the liquidity of stocks prior to derivative trading was not high. In other words, derivative listing improved the liquidity of illiquid stocks significantly and served one of the basic objectives of risk management. On the other hand, long-term liquidity was marginally affected if the stocks were already liquid and it is not a matter of concern. © 2014, SAGE Publications.

The Impact of Derivative Trading on the Liquidity of Stocks

This paper provides a simulation model for scheduling service task operations and distributing related human resources in dispersed work centres. The managerial concern for the minimisation of temporal overhead costs of task operations in the face of fluctuating, short-term service demands is examined under restrictions imposed by resource availability, work hour flexibility and task-backlog fulfilment. Scheduling strategies are developed directly from the constrained reduction of temporal overheads of appointment and release operations in distributed, non-interlinked work centres. To ensure the models structural validity, simulated task backlogs are adjusted to the actual backlog-reducing procedures in real applications. The model provides means for setting up balanced work schedules that can greatly lower temporal overheads of appointment and release operations if workers are selected in accordance with compatible time availability and task qualifications. Direct comparisons of worker productivities in the different centres can also be made, allowing managers to locate bottleneck points of service operations when productivity falls short of desired expectations. The robustness of the model is ensured by finding significant parameter domains through Monte Carlo simulations, centred on data points collected from real-time demand functions in actual service operations. © 2013 Copyright Taylor and Francis Group, LLC.

Distributed task scheduling and human resource distribution in industrial service solution production: A simulation application

Present research focused on studying impact of preparation work (prework) in dyads on information sharing in groups. Stasser and Titus (1985) found that groups focus on common information during discussion and neglect unique information. Further, research has shown that subjects are more willing to share information in dyadic settings compared to larger groups (Taylor, de Soto and Lieb, 1979). This research looks at the advantage that can be derived from using dyads to do prework before group engages the assigned task. A cross-sectional between- subjects experimental design was used. Data was collected from 40 groups with help of 240 participants. It was found that prework in dyads enhanced unique information sharing at group level discussion.

Improving information sharing in groups by using dyads

Behaviour Informatics constitutes behavioral data construction, impact modeling, simulation, presentation, measurement, evaluation and behavior pattern/network analysis. With the incumbent of social media and its growing significance in work and personal life, researches in last few years examined patterns of use of social media and cognitive behavior. The present study is a literature review considering choice of media, intensity of use, perceived richness, as some of the predicting factors of social media use. It also encompasses available literature on interrelationship between patterns of use of social media with cognitive behavioral indicators such as personality, motivation, leadership, and quality of life. This review comprises of 146 research papers sourced from ScienceDirect, JSTOR, Emerald and EBSCO. Through the literature review, a predictive model has been suggested which can be utilized in decision making in employee life cycle right from recruitment, training, performance management, transition to succession planning. A literature review on human behavioral pattern through social media use: A hr perspective

This volume assesses the achievements and limitations of a new set of non-state or multistakeholder institutions that are concerned with improving the social and environmental record of business, and holding corporations to account. It does so from a perspective that aims to address two limitations that often characterize this field of inquiry. First, fragmentation: articles or books typically focus on one or a handful of cases. Second, the development dimension: what does such regulation imply for developing countries and subaltern groups in terms of well-being, empowerment and sustainability? Business Regulation and Non-State Actors: Whose standards? Whose development?

Chapter 1 provided an account of the problematic of non-state regulation. It included a distinction of three types of non-state regulatory initiatives, an analysis of how they approach the regulatory function and tend to contribute to the promotion of development, along with an evaluation of their effectiveness as regulatory mechanisms. The chapter also suggested that the potential of such initiatives might be enhanced if they were to work more closely with states and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs), as this might facilitate a transition to harder law. This chapter takes up this question of a potential transition to harder law. It begins by first delineating the key feature of the notion of governance as a form of regulatory strategy and then by examining how given instances of such a strategy are likely to be contested. Next, three strategic models of governance are distinguished, based upon different economic development strategies that states might adopt. The prospect of these different models generating harder forms of law that will contribute to development is then explored by examining some illustrative cases. The chapter concludes with some reflections on the constraints that structures place on regulatory reform efforts and the ongoing NorthSouth tension within such efforts. © 2012 United Nations Research Institute for Social Development (UNRISD).

From non-state regulation to governance?: Shifting the site of contestation

For many organizations today building goods and services over a period of time, the continuous production of documented product development information is necessary for immediate as well as future internalization and reuse. Especially, in an environment where multiple, often geographically dispersed, teams of workers are involved, it becomes imperative that the information be generated in optimally balanced distributions of project resources, so that it can be disseminated and reused efficiently. We introduce in this study a model to address this problem. The model is validated by formulating its structure on the essential characteristics of the underlying problem domain. To simulate development situations where creative human endeavor is more emphasized than automated applications of routine procedures, we use a set of human-centered input decision variables and examine the optimal output production relative to their dynamics and control. Our model is not tied to the characteristics of any individual project per se but can be easily modified and generalized to address other allied types of production situations. Simulations are performed for a variety of practical decision-making scenarios. Our results suggest that workers' contextual work experience, interactions, and background learning all govern production optimality, although nonuniformly in distinct temporal domains of development. © 1988-2012 IEEE.

Optimal information production in product development environments: A model with simulations

The Indian National Action Plan for Climate Change (NAPCC) envisages several measures to address global climate change. One of the important measures identified involves increasing the share of renewable energy in total electricity consumption in the country. This would mean NAPCC envisages renewable energy to constitute approximately 15% of the energy mix of India by 2020. To achieve the target set by the NAPCC, Indian Ministry of Power launched Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) mechanism in November 2010. However, participation in the REC markets is low and RECs have failed to attract significant investment so far. In this study a preliminary attempt has been made to assess the performance of existing REC mechanism in India. After highlighting the salient features of the Indian renewable energy policy framework a brief description of renewable purchase obligation (RPO) and source specific RPOs for different states is discussed along with an overview of REC market in India to date. The performance of Indian REC mechanism is evaluated by cost competiveness, decentralized distributed generation and renewable energy portfolio diversity and their effectiveness has also been measured on the basis of the available data. Although, it is difficult to make any conclusive remark on the success or failure of REC mechanism due to its short experience, this study examines the process to date to come out with some recommendations which can be used to fine tune the functioning of existing REC market in India. For instance, REC price bounds should be revised because it has been not explicitly supporting cost competiveness by offering 60.33% higher average price than the existing average feed-in tariff (FiT). It is also observed that state-wise contribution in registered capacity is skewed towards few states like Tamil Nadu (27%), Maharashtra (23%), and Uttar Pradesh (22%), which puts pressure on policy makers to restructure the existing REC mechanism. © 2013 Elsevier Ltd.
