Object Segmentation with Deep Neural Nets Coupled with a Shape Prior, When Learning From a Training set of Limited Quality and Small Size

The present work explores the synthesis and characterization of antipyrine crowned Organosilatranes from a condensation reaction between antipyrine and amino silane followed by transesterification reaction with tripodal ligand. A highly selective chemosensor based on the prepared antipyrine crowned Organosilatrane exhibited remarkable selectivity and sensitivity towards Fe2+ and Hg2+ ions. The sensor binds to these ions at 1 : 1 stoichiometry and with high affinity as determined by Jobs plot and apparent from binding constant values of 4.05 ×105 M−1and 3.79 ×105 M−1 respectively. First Report on the Synthesis of Antipyrine Crowned Siloxy Framework: Optical Recognition of Fe2+ and Hg2+ Ions

The present manuscript reports the synthesis of multistimulus-responsive smart supramolecular hydrogels derived by in situ coating of silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) on colloidal cytidine-5′-monophosphate-capped β-FeOOH nanohybrids (β-FeOOH@5′-CMP) under physiological conditions forming a polycrystalline building block (Ag-coated β-FeOOH@5′-CMP). The presence of Ag in the binary nanohybrids induces the puckering of ribose sugar, bringing a change in its conformation from C2′-endo to C3′-endo, which enhanced the supramolecular interactions among different moieties of other building blocks to construct a porous network of hydrogels in the self-assembly via the formation of a micellar structure. Such a supramolecular network in hydrogel is also evidenced by the reversible sol⇌gel transformation under multistimulus-responsiveness in a narrow range of pH, temperature, and sonication, as well as by the manifestation of rapid self-healing and injectability features. As-synthesized hydrogels exhibiting shear-thinning behavior under higher strain and converting back into the sol under low strain, suggests their potential for localized drug delivery. The presence of Ag NPs in the hydrogel enhanced its viscoelastic properties, % swelling (580) and loading capabilities (590 mg g-1) for methylene blue (MB), and its controlled release over days (∼2-30) as a function of pH. It displayed excellent surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy activity allowing to detect MB-like drug molecules at ≤10-12 M. Thus, the as-synthesized hydrogels represent a unique superparamagnetic nanosystem consisting of all greener components (5′-CMP/β-FeOOH/Ag) with superior viscoelastic, sensing, and antimicrobial properties, displaying multistimulus-responsiveness (pH/temperature/sonication), thereby suggesting their vast potential for biomedical and environmental applications. © 2020 American Chemical Society.

Multistimulus-Responsive Supramolecular Hydrogels Derived by in situ Coating of Ag Nanoparticles on 5′-CMP-Capped β-FeOOH Binary Nanohybrids with Multifunctional Features and Applications

In this study, superhydrophobic surfaces were fabricated using 1H,1H,2H,2H-perfluorooctyltriethoxysilane monolayer deposition on thermally oxidized brass. The superhydrophobic surface showed a contact angle (CA) of 155° with a CA hysteresis of 3.5°. The corrosion behaviour of developed superhydrophobic surface was evaluated using potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) studies in 3.5\% NaCl solution. The superhydrophobic surface showed exceptional corrosion behaviour with nearly 21 times higher corrosion resistance compared to as-received (AS) brass. The EIS analysis suggests the presence of Warburg impedance in the AS brass indicating diffusion phenomena, while superhydrophobic brass surface showed a reversed loop in the low-frequency spectra, signifying significantly delayed kinetics of the electrochemical system. Facile fabrication of superhydrophobic brass surface for excellent corrosion resistance

Well foundation is commonly used in India for road and railway bridges over rivers. It is a massive structure and hence it is generally considered to be safe under laterally loaded condition. Indian Roads Congress Codes (IRC:45-1972 and IRC:78-1983) suggests limit equilibrium approach to determine lateral load capacity of well foundation. It considers well foundation as a rigid body and surrounding soils as elastic in design state and plastic in limit state. Design procedure stated in Indian standard codes determines ultimate lateral load capacity of Well-Soil system. However, it does not yield the magnitude of lateral displacement of a well foundation at the ultimate load. Because of this, it is difficult to decide whether the lateral displacement at estimated ultimate lateral load capacity of a well foundation is allowable or not. Over the years, few methods to analyze the lateral response (both force and displacement responses) of well foundation are developed. These methods consider surrounding soil as linear elastic material which is modeled by linear elastic springs, and well foundation as a rigid body. Recently developed methods consider lateral stiffness as well as rotational stiffness of the surrounding soil and represent soil by parallel combination of lateral linear springs and rotational springs. Some of these methods also consider flexibility of well foundation and model well foundation by Euler-Bernoulli beam element. In this article, we present a comparative study of the available methods of analysis of laterally loaded well foundation. This study indicates significant differences in the response of Well-Soil system obtained from different methods. Validation of existing methods is done with two-dimensional continuum model to identify accuracy in existing models. It highlights the need for proper evaluation of available methods of analysis with realistic incorporation of foundation stiffness and interface effect in modeling the Well-Soil system for pseudo static loading conditions. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd 2020.

Comparative study of methods for analysis of laterally loaded well foundation

Tetrathienoanthracene (TTA), a new discotic core fragment, is explored that shows a remarkably high hole mobility (μh) of 4.22 cm2 V-1 s-1 at room temperature when used in space-charge limited current (SCLC) devices. Strong co-facial interactions (π-π, S⋯S) among TTA cores along with a high tendency of the derivative to align homeotropically in the columnar mesophase over a large area in SCLC cells contributed to the top-class charge carrier mobility. High hole mobility in room temperature discotic liquid crystalline tetrathienoanthracenes

In this study, a novel processing technique for microstructural refinement of Ni-Cr-5Al2O3 composite coating developed using high velocity oxy-fuel (HVOF) technique is demonstrated. The processing technique, known as stationary friction processing (SFP) is an adaptation of the well-known friction stir processing (FSP). The as-sprayed coating showed a typical lamellar microstructure along with non-homogeneous elemental distribution. The SFP treatment resulted in significant microstructural refinement with complete elimination of splat boundaries and pores together with fully homogeneous elemental distribution. The performance of as-sprayed and processed coatings was evaluated in slurry erosion, erosion-corrosion and pure corrosion in 3.5\% NaCl solution. At oblique impingement angle, the SFP treated sample showed minimum erosion rate of nearly 0.1 mm3/h which is 3–5 times lower than the as-sprayed coating and the substrate. For normal impingement, the erosion rate of SFP specimen was nearly 30\% lower compared to the as-sprayed coating and the substrate. This is attributed to higher hardness as well as fracture toughness of the SFP treated coating as a result of microstructural refinement. In addition, the SFP treated coating was able to demonstrate superior resistance under erosion-corrosion conditions as well. Further, the processed sample showed lowest corrosion rate of 0.079 μA/cm2, 5–6 times lower than the as-sprayed coating (0.39 μA/cm2). The enhancement in the corrosion resistance of the coating after processing is attributed to complete homogenization of the coating with removal of all splats, splat boundaries, pores and regions of elemental segregation. © 2020 Elsevier B.V.

Structural rejuvenation of thermal spray coating through stationary friction processing

In this work, we investigate the effect of back-gate voltage on sensing metric of Dielectric Modulated (DM) Tunnel Field Effect Transistor (TFET) biosensor. Under this work we have investigated transfer characteristics, the variation of energy band, and hole concentration with back gate voltage and calculated the drain current sensitivity and selectivity for three different value of back-gate voltage. In this work, we have shown that with positive back gate voltage, drain current sensitivity is improved by nearly one order of magnitude and selectivity value is also enhanced by more than 2 times. © 2020 IEEE.

Impact of back-gate voltage on sensing metric of dielectric modulated Tunnel FET biosensor

The cost of uncompressing (decoding) data can be prohibitive in certain real-time applications, for example when predicting using compressed deep learning models. In many scenarios, it is acceptable to sacrifice to some extent on compression in the interest of fast decoding. In this work, we are interested in finding the prefix tree having the best decode time under the constraint that the code length does not exceed a certain threshold for a natural class of algorithms under the hierarchical memory model. We present an efficient optimal algorithm for this problem based on a dynamic program that capitalizes on an interesting structure of the optimal solution. © 2020 IEEE.

Decode-efficient prefix codes for hierarchical memory models

This manuscript presents a compact triple frequency band antenna for wireless applications such as WiMAX and WLAN application. The planned antenna has a rectangular microstrip patch with rectangular shape ring slot and a small patch at the back-side of the upper conducting patch and a 9mm x 25mm ground plane. The dimension of the ground plane patch is optimized to obtain 2.4 Giga-Hertz, 3.6 Giga-Hertz and 5 Giga-Hertz frequencies with a sharp cut off at 2.4 GHz and 905 MHz bandwidth at 3.6 GHz and 481MHz bandwidth at 5 GHz resonant frequencies. Simple structure, wider bandwidth, compact size and flat gain make this antenna useful for wireless applications. © 2020 IEEE.
