The Electrical Engineering (EE) Department started as part of the School of Engineering (SoE) at SNU. Its vision is to be a catalyst in imparting quality education and conducting valued research for the benefit of society. Historically, the field of electrical engineering is one of the most important engineering disciplines that have changed the course of the world. Some of our important areas of teaching are electrical machine drives, power electronics and systems, Microelectronics and Mechanical Systems (MEMS), material sciences, control systems, machine Intelligence, Wireless communication, Microwave Communications, Mobile Communications and signal processing.
The vision of the department is to establish itself as a center of excellence in terms of research and teaching in its chosen areas. We are committed to establishing human and material infrastructure in this cause. A number of laboratories are in the process of being established for both undergraduate teaching, postgraduate and doctoral research. The department is in the process of forming research groups in some of the key areas and collaborating with various institutions and corporations. The department is imparting quality education through its well-structured undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programs. The undergraduate program is a broad-based program founded on the pedagogy of learning by doing. The postgraduate programs are intended to provide advanced degrees in contemporary areas of industrial relevance. They also provide platforms for research avenues. The doctoral program aims to conduct research both in fundamental and applied areas for societal use.
The postgraduate programs intend to fill the dearth in the supply of highly skilled professionals. It will enable the students to gain high-end skills for intellectually challenging careers in industry. Our aim is to invoke in our students a sense of curiosity to question and to motivate them to think deeply about theoretical and applied problems in technology for society’s needs.
The Electrical Engineering department offers the following undergraduate programs:
1. Bachelor of Technology in Electrical and Electronics Engineering - B.Tech - EEE.
2. Bachelor of Technology in Electronics and Communications Engineering - B.Tech - ECE.
All Undergraduate students in addition to the above-listed majors can earn minors in other disciplines of the University. Additionally, they can also get specialized within the major courses based on the choice of the courses they take under Major elective courses.
The department also offers Doctoral (Ph.D.,) programs in the following areas of research:
1. Electrical Machine Drives,
2. Power Electronics and Drives,
3. Microwave Engineering,
4. Microelectronic and Mechanical Systems (MEMS)
5. Material Sciences
6. Signal Processing
7. Wireless Communications
