Dr. Dinkar Prasad obtained B.Tech. degree in electrical engineering in 1981 from IIT, Kanpur. Soon after graduation, he joined Tata Motors (then known as TELCO) at Jamshedpur. While with TELCO, he took study leave and obtained M.Tech. degree (1986) in ‘Machine Drives & Power Electronics’ from IIT, Kharagpur. He left TELCO in August 1987 and joined full time Ph.D. program at IIT, Kharagpur where he earned Ph.D. degree in 1992. From September, 1991 to June, 1992 he taught as Lecturer in Electrical Engineering Department of IIT, Kharagpur. Later (June, 1992 to January, 1997) he shifted to Electrical Engineering Department of IIT, Bombay as Assistant Professor. He was a visiting fellow with University of Minnesota, Minneapolis (USA) from January 1997 to January, 2000. In 2000, he came back to India and joined IIT Kharagpur as Associate Professor in Electrical Engineering Department and continued till June, 2006. From June, 2006 to July, 2013 he was with Emerson Network Power (India) at its Thane (Maharashtra) head-office as Senior Director R&D / Technology. Since July 2013, he has been with Shiv Nadar University as a Professor in Electrical Engineering Department. Apart from teaching he also holds the position of Head of Electrical Engineering Department and Associate Director of School of Engineering. His area of specialization is “Power Electronics and its Applications”. He (along with his colleagues) has filed 7 patents and published nearly two dozen research papers in reputed journals and conferences. Dr. Prasad has guided more than thirty M.Tech. and two Ph.D. thesis works. Dr. Prasad is a life Fellow of Institution of Engineers, India.
