In present communication, greenhouse solar dryer under forced mode integrated with different types of photovoltaic (PV) technologies have been proposed. Further, various parameters have been evaluated on environmental point of view for different weather condition of New Delhi, India. For numerical analysis, radiation data and ambient air temperature have been taken from IMD (Indian Meteorological Department), Pune. Further, different parameter such as crop temperature, greenhouse temperature and cell temperature have been calculated with experimental validation by the help of MATLAB 2013a. Overall (equivalent) thermal energy found to be 1838.16, 1740.98, 1351.22, 1472.12 and 1527.86 kWh for c-Si, p-Si, a-Si, CdTe and CIGS PV technologies integrated with drying system respectively on yearly basis. Further, embodied energy, energy payback time, CO2 mitigation and carbon credit earn through different PV drying system have also been calculated. It was found that payback time for c-Si, p-Si, a-Si, CdTe and CIGS system are 1.13, 0.98, 0.93, 0.82, and 0.39 years respectively on the basis of equivalent thermal energy. © 2017 Elsevier Ltd

Environ economic analysis of various types of photovoltaic technologies integrated with greenhouse solar drying system

Benzene is one of hazardous pollutants generated from paint, chemical, and petrochemical industries have a harmful impact on human health and the atmosphere. This study reports benzene biodegradation by indigenous mixed microbial culture in shake flasks over a concentration ranging from 25 to 600 mg/l, and the kinetics involved in the process has been modeled. Experimental data obtained were fitted to both inhibition and noninhibition models to determine the biokinetic constants. Haldane model was best to predict the experimental data. The central composite design was further used for optimization of pH and benzene concentration to enhance the benzene biodegradation. At an optimum pH of 7.05 and benzene concentration of 332.82 mg/l, the maximum estimated specific growth rate and degradation rate were 0.05 1/h and 6.01 mg/l h, respectively. The LC-MS analysis of sample indicate the presence of catechol, cis-1,2-dihydrobenzene-1,2-diol, and 2-hydroxymuconate semialdehyde as intermediates, which justifies the developed pathway of benzene biodegradation. The predominant microorganism in the mixed culture responsible for benzene degradation was later identified to be Enterobacter cloacae SG208. The results provide insight into the process of benzene biodegradation and prove the potential of indigenous mixed culture for treatment of benzene. © 2016 Elsevier Ltd

Benzene biodegradation by indigenous mixed microbial culture: Kinetic modeling and process optimization

In this study, we propose an ultra-fast responsive PC based volatile organic compounds (VOCs) sensor using a nanoscale easy tear process inspired by commercially available 'easy tear package'. Colloidal crystal-polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) composite can be realized through nanoscale tear propagation along the interface between the outer surface of crystallized nanoparticles and bulk PDMS. Not only cuboid but also dome shaped colloidal crystal-PDMS composite is successfully obtained using the assembled nanoparticles constructed by wettability contrast patterning or inkjet printing. The response time for VOCs detection is dramatically improved by allowing the direct contact with VOCs because of removing the residual on colloidal crystals perfectly. © 2017 IEEE.

Nanoscale easy tear process for ultra-fast responsive colloidal crystal-PDMS composite VOCs sensors

Widespread usage of Location based services (LBS) has eventually raised the concern for user’s privacy. Various privacy preserving techniques are based on the idea of forwarding cloaking area to service provider who might be untrusted party, instead of actual location of query issuer/client. For such scenarios, in which cloaking area is exploited for privacy, results of the query request are generally based on nearest distance between client and service requested. Such techniques do not include real time context which is important in determining security, accessibility, etc. of the service and enhancing service quality. In this work, a novel method, based on crowd-sourcing concept has been proposed which takes into account the real time context for determining results of query. A system consisting of real time context-aware component is coined. Real time context has been obtained through crowd-resources available in cloaking area of client. A fuzzy inference system (FIS) has been proposed which takes nearest distance and real time context parameters as input. Based on these parameters FIS generates a new rank for the service requested. This rank is the new position on the answer list for the service requested. A prototype of the proposed system is implemented. Evaluation of prototype has been done by taking feedback of 112 users about their satisfaction in the range (0–10). User feedback for the prototype is compared with feedback of other similar systems using Kruskal Wallis test for significant differences. It has been discovered that user satisfaction for proposed system stochastically dominates other prevalent systems. © Springer International Publishing AG 2017.

Quality enhancement of location based services through real time context aware obfuscation using crowd sourcing

Analysing and mining trajectories pose new challenges for trajectory privacy. We are addressing privacy issue for offline (historical) trajectories which are generally published for research. A fundamental research question in trajectory privacy domain is of trajectory anonymisation. k-anonymity is used as a standard for privacy which ensures that every entity in the dataset is indistinguishable from (k - 1) other entities. The proposed work aims at anonymising trajectories based on graph split method. We have used technique of constructing trajectory graph to simulate spatial and temporal relations of trajectories, based on which trajectory k-anonymity sets are found through graph split. For the purpose, we have proposed a novel method that uses earth mover's distance as a metric to find trajectory k-anonymity sets in contrast to Euclidean distance. It is discovered through a series of experiments that the proposed method is outperforming in terms of low information loss and computation time. Copyright © 2017 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.

Trajectory anonymisation based on graph split using EMD

Machine Translation, sometimes referred by the acronym MT, is one of the important fields of study of computational linguistics that investigates the use of computer software to translate text or speech from one natural language to another. At its basic level, MT performs simple substitution of atomic words in one natural language for words in another language. Around the world, numerous systems are available in the market for the assessment of the translation being done by the various translation systems. Even within India, a large number of such evaluation systems are available and a lot of research is still going on to develop a better evaluation system which can beat the results produced by Human Evaluators. Even the main challenge before Indian Researchers is that the evaluation systems which are giving unbeatable results for the translation of Foreign languages (such as German, French, Chinese, etc.) are not even giving considerable results for the translation of Indian Languages (Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Punjabi, etc.). So at par these evaluation systems cannot be applied as it is to evaluate Machine Translations of Indian Languages. Indian languages require a novel approach because of the relatively unrestricted order of words within a word group. In this paper, we are presenting an algorithm (by incorporating different modules of language models like synonym replacement, root word extraction and shallow parsing) which when applied upon the translation of English to Hindi text gives better evaluation results as compared to those algorithms which do not incorporate all these modules. Moreover, our study is limited to English to Hindi language pair and the testing is being with the corpora of agriculture domain. © 2017 IEEE.

An algorithm for the better assessment of machine translation

Integration of information, communication and materials technologies into the electricity Smart Grids is the key to sustainable clean energy future. This study focuses on materials innovation and design of power transmission lines. Conventional bi-material power transmission lines consist of aluminum conductors with steel reinforcement. Increase in temperature of transmission lines due to Joule heating limits their current carrying capacity and the efficiency of power transmission. New design of transmission wires proposed in this study consists of carbon nanostructure (CNS)-epoxy composites in a multilayered architecture to enable multifunctional capabilities. Excellent thermal transport properties of CNS-epoxy composites are utilized to optimally dissipate heat from the outer surface of transmission wire in order to maximize its performance. A coupled electrical-thermal finite element (FE) analysis of Aluminum Conductor Steel Reinforced (ACSR) wires is performed and the results are benchmarked with those obtained from relevant IEEE standards. The validated model is then extended to new transmission line composed of aluminum conductor - composite core with CNS-epoxy composite coating (ACCC-CNS). Steady-state coupled FE analyses of ACSR and ACCC-CNS wires indicate that the proposed design of ACCC-CNS wire enables transmission of larger currents than an equivalent ACSR wire for the same amount of conductor material due to reduced operating temperature. The proposed design of power lines would enable development of Smart Grids for more efficient utilization of electricity from renewable sources.

High performance overhead power lines with carbon nanostructures for transmission and distribution of electricity from renewable sources

The research article presents the design of five stage multistage telecommunication switching and FPGA synthesis. The cluster configuration of the designed network is 256 × 256 that supports maximum 3.436 × 10 10 calls simultaneously using 6,356,992 paths under the condition of full available network. Multistage switches are amenable to modular design and guarantees full available network. Modular design approach is used to build the large scale network, which can be fabricated easily using VLSI technology. The modular structure used to implement 256 × 256 five stage designs is 2 × 128 in first stage, 128 × 128 in second stage, 128 × 128 in third stage, 128 × 128 in fourth stage, and 128 × 2 in fifth stage. Moreover, the memory utilization has been found increased when number of nodes varied from 2 × 2 to 256 × 256 cluster size for the network. The design is developed with the help of Xilinx ISE 14.2 using VHDL, synthesized on Virtex-5 FPGA, and function simulation is carried out in Modelsim 10.1b student edition. The experimental set up ensures the successful transmission of data among inlets/outlets of the developed five stage network chip. © 2017, Springer Science+Business Media, LLC.

Five Stage Telecommunication Switching Design and Synthesis

A novel beam-switching printed semicircular antenna design has been proposed to operate at the Terahertz (THz) frequency band. The distinctive feature of the design lies in the use of Graphene to control the radiation characteristics of the antenna. Further, we extend the same idea to explore the applicability of Graphene for isolation of electromagnetic energy with the help of a simple design of a microstrip transmission line with Graphene. The proposed antenna and microstrip line designs have been carried out with an objective of realizing voltage controlled antennas and transmission lines which have lot of potential in various emerging and next generation wireless communication systems such as phased arrays, MIMO systems, sensor networks, etc. © 2016 IEEE.
