Performance enhancement of the photovoltaic system with different cooling methods

The aim of this research is to develop an architectural style commensurate with the requirements of residential buildings in the hot and dry climate of Najran. The courtyard concept is one of the most important passive design strategies most in tune with the desert climate. The courtyard concept also meets the sociocultural requirements of the region. The success of this strategy can be verified by selecting a typical residential unit (villa) and assessing its indoor environmental conditions and energy performance. The villa can then be redesigned with the same functional and spatial determinants while creating a courtyard at the heart of the new villa configuration. To determine the level of improvement resulting from the proposed solution, the energy consumption per square meter is measured, and the results are compared with the DesignBuilder simulation program. The results indicate that with the proposed design focused mainly on the courtyard and some passive design strategies, the total energy consumption is reduced by 32.80% compared to the base case. The research concludes with a set of recommendations related to opportunities to improve the quality of the indoor environment and reduce cooling energy demand, in addition to achieving privacy for occupants and meeting the sociocultural requirements in the context of preserving Islamic values. © 2022 by the authors.

Impact of Courtyard Concept on Energy Efficiency and Home Privacy in Saudi Arabia

The condition for the formation of droplet groups in liquid sprays is poorly understood. This study looks at a simplified model system consisting of two iso-propanol droplets of equal diameter, Dd0, in tandem, separated initially by a center-to-center distance, a20, and moving in the direction of gravity with an initial velocity, Vd0 &gt; Vt, where Vt is the terminal velocity of an isolated droplet from Stokes flow analysis. A theoretical analysis based on Stokes flow around this double-droplet system is presented, including an inertial correction factor in terms of drag coefficient to account for large Reynolds numbers (≫1). From this analysis, it is observed that the drag force experienced by the leading droplet is higher than that experienced by the trailing droplet. The temporal evolutions of the velocity, Vd (t), of the droplets, as well as their separation distance, a2 (t), are presented, and the time to at which the droplets come in contact with each other and their approach velocity at this time, ∆Vd0, are calculated. The effects of the droplet diameter, Dd0, the initial droplet velocity, Vd0, and the initial separation, a20 on to and ∆Vd0 are reported. An Analytical Study on the Mechanism of Grouping of Droplets

Alongside revenue maximization, retailers seek to offer a diverse range of items to facilitate sustainable revenue generation in the long run. Moreover, customers typically buy sets of items, i.e., itemsets, as opposed to individual items. Therefore, strategic placement of diversified and high-revenue itemsets is a priority for the retailer. Research efforts made towards the extraction and placement of high-revenue itemsets in retail stores do not consider the notion of diversification. Further, candidate itemsets generated using existing utility mining schemes usually explode; which can cause memory and retrieval-time issues. This work makes three key contributions. First, we propose an efficient framework for retrieval of high-revenue itemsets with a varying size and a varying degree of diversification. A higher degree of diversification is indicative of fewer repetitive items in the top-revenue itemsets. Second, we propose the kUI (kU tility I temset) index for quick and efficient retrieval of diverse top-λ high-revenue itemsets. We also propose the HUDIP (H igh-U tility and D iversified I temset P lacement) scheme, which exploits our proposed kUI index for placement of high-revenue and diversified itemsets. Third, our extensive performance study with both real and synthetic datasets demonstrates the effectiveness of our proposed HUDIP scheme in efficiently determining high-revenue and diversified itemsets. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature.

In the present paper, thermo-mechanical stability analysis of geometrically imperfect porous functionally graded plates (FGP) with geometric nonlinearity is presented. The equilibrium, stability, and compatibility equations are derived using Logarithmic structural kinematics in conjunction with the von-Karman type of geometric nonlinearity. A logarithmic-based shear-strain function has been used for the first time for the buckling response of functionally graded material (FGM) plates. Generic imperfection function has been implemented to incorporate the various imperfection modes like sin-type or global type in the formulation. The effective materials properties of the plates with porosity inclusion have been computed using modified power law. The plate is subjected to uniaxial and biaxial compression as well as combined compression and tension along with thermal loading. An exact expression for the critical buckling load and critical buckling thermal load of geometrically imperfect porous FGM plate for each loading case has been developed. After confirming the excellent accuracy of the current exact solutions, the effect of geometric imperfection, porosity inclusion, and geometric configurations on the nonlinear stability of the FGM plate have been discussed extensively. The results presented in this paper will be used as a benchmark for future research. © 2022 Wiley-VCH GmbH.

Thermo-mechanical nonlinear stability analysis of geometrically imperfect functionally graded plates with microstructural defects using logarithmic structure kinematics: An unified expression

In the present study, the composition of bio-oil was determined using various analysis techniques such as H-NMR, 13 C-NMR, DEPT 90 & 135, and GC-MS. The bio-oil was produced from torrefaction of mixed food waste at 300 °C with heating rate of 10 °C/min. The novelty in this study lies in two facts; (i) NMR has been used as a qualitative method in contrary to it being used a quantitative method in previous works on bio-oil from other biomass and the compounds identified via GC-MS were cross checked via NMR Spectra of the compounds that were present in large quantity in bio-oil sample (> 3%); (2) bio-oil from mixed food waste (MFW) as no study was there to determine the detailed composition of bio-oil from MFW. Characteristics of MFW is quite different from typical biomass as it has additional compounds such as starch, protein, and lipids and found to be generating bio-oil of different composition. © 2022 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.

Compositional study of bio-oil obtained from torrefaction of mixed food waste using H-NMR, 13C-NMR, DEPT 90 &amp; 135, and GC-MS

Linear vibratory feeder is one of the most extensively used part feeding systems in a production line. The part motion on the feeder can be sliding or hopping or a combination of these two. Based on the dynamics of part motion this paper identifies three distinct regimes. A mathematical model was developed that can predict the trend in conveying velocity in these regimes. This model can provide the parts position as a function of time and has considered relative displacement between the part and the conveying surface. The simulation was validated by performing experiments for a range of vibration frequencies and amplitudes. © IMechE 2022.

Part dynamics in the intermediate regime of a linear vibratory feeder

Dynamic networks continuously change their structure and properties, and anomaly detection methods must identify these structural changes at both local and global levels. Network embedding is considered a powerful tool for low-dimension structural representation of network objects. However, most embedding techniques developed for dynamic networks are incompetent in capturing the changes in global structures. Besides, with incoming edge streams, these techniques change the embeddings of all network objects, including those vertices and edges that do not experience any change in subsequent timestamps. In this paper, we propose an embedding algorithm DSEDN to identify anomalous vertices and edges in dynamic networks utilizing structural changes in networks. The algorithm uses sparse autoencoder to generate network embeddings minimizing the pair-wise and neighborhood distance between vertex representations of every subgraph derived from random walks. The subgraphs have been weighted based on their respective clustering coefficient, and the clustering algorithm is employed to identify network anomalies. The advantages of proposed method include: (i) better accuracy in detecting network anomalies; (ii) structure-preserving embeddings, such that it maintains the local and global structure of every snapshot of growing graphs; (iii) density-based embeddings; (iv) stable embeddings over time such that embeddings of consecutive timestamps do not change much for those network objects that do not experience any change; (v) scalability. We evaluate the proposed algorithm on anomaly detection and graph visualization on five real-world datasets. Our algorithm achieves improvement in AUC, scalability, and stability across all baselines. © 2022 Elsevier B.V.

Density-based structural embedding for anomaly detection in dynamic networks

This paper deals with the design, simulation and fabrication of two graphene antennas. CPW fed rectangular patch antenna with U-shaped slot and inverted U-shaped slot are named as design-1 and design-2 respectively. The resonance frequency of both antennas is 2.4GHz (sub 6GHz range). The antennas are designed to work within the range available for Wi-Fi use. Polyamide kapton tape of thickness 100μm and relative permittivity of 3.5 is used as a substrate. Graphene is used to make the conducting patch, feed, and grounds of the antenna design. Two antenna designs are compared based on different antenna parameters and the best of the two is studied extensively throughout the paper. © 2022 IEEE.
