Temperature dependence of the intensity of the phonon-assisted excitation probability (as a function of the intensity of the luminescence bands corresponding to the (Formula presented) transitions) of (Formula presented) ion in GdTb((Formula presented) (GTMO), above and below the ferroelectric phase transition temperature ((Formula presented)) is investigated in the present work. The experiments reveal a sharp change in the intensity near (Formula presented) . This change is attributed to a sharp change in the electron-phonon coupling near (Formula presented) . A phenomenological model is proposed to fit the experimental data, in broad accordance with the Ginzburg-Landau equations for critical behavior. The investigations also clearly indicate that phonon-assisted excitation probability can be used to probe structural phase transitions. © 1997 The American Physical Society.

Temperature dependence of phonon-assisted excitation probability in GdTb: Evidence for a change in electron-lattice coupling near a structural phase transition

We discuss in detail the parasupersymmetric quantum mechanics of arbitrary order where the parasupersymmetry is between the normal bosons and those corresponding to the truncated harmonic oscillator. We show that even though the parasusy algebra is different from that of the usual parasusy quantum mechanics, still the consequences of the two are identical. We further show that the parasupersymmetric quantum mechanics of arbitrary order p can also be rewritten in terms of p supercharges (i.e. all of which obey Qi2 = O). However, the Hamiltonian cannot be expressed in a simple form in terms of the p supercharges except in a special case. A model of conformal parasupersymmetry is also discussed and it is shown that in this case, the p supercharges, the p conformal supercharges along with Hamiltonian H, conformal generator K and dilatation generator D form a closed algebra.

Truncated harmonic oscillator and parasupersymmetric quantum mechanics

Using techniques of supersymmetric quantum mechanics we derive phase equivalent partner potentials to Eckart and Bargmann potentials. It is found that the partner potentials pick up new singularities which are absent in the parent potentials.

Quasi-exactly solvable rational potentials with known zero-energy solutions of the Schrödinger equation are constructed by starting from exactly solvable potentials for which the Schrödinger equation admits an so(2,1) potential algebra. Zero-energy states for a class of quasi-exactly solvable rational potentials

Damage induced by MeV Ar+ ion implantation and end of range defects in Si have been studied by capacitance-voltage, thermally stimulated capacitance, deep level transient spectroscopy (DLTS) and time analyzed transient spectroscopy (TATS). Unlike earlier studies, which focus on defects induced during post-implantation annealing steps, we study as-implanted p-type silicon samples. We report the occurrence of mid-gap acceptor levels using DLTS and TATS in a region well beyond the ion range. The presence of temperature dependent series resistance due to damaged region distorts DLTS lineshapes, even leading to sign reversal of DLTS peaks in some cases. A new and better method of correcting series resistance effects in capacitance transients has been employed. It is based on detecting the point of inversion of isothermal transients which are nonmonotonic due to the presence of series resistance. The capture process is found to be thermally activated with a high barrier energy. Possible origin of capture barrier and broadening in activation energy are discussed. Our results indicate that these deep levels are associated with point defects with local disorder in the neighbourhood.

Supersymmetric generalization of a coupled KdV equation

We propose a model to explain the experimentally observed ion-beam mixing rates in reactive systems under nonoverlapping spike conditions. There are several technologically important metal-semiconductor systems belonging to this class. For comparison with model prediction, we have studied experimentally ion-beam mixing in Cu/Ge bilayer systems at various temperatures. The results show that the room-temperature mixing rate varies linearly with deposited energy density (Formula presented) and that the mixing is a diffusion controlled process proceeding via compound formation. Excellent agreement has been obtained between the experimental observations and theoretical values predicted from our proposed model while other current models are seen to be inadequate. The model also explains the mixing rates of the Ni/Si system reported in the literature. © 1996 The American Physical Society.

Compound formation under local thermal spikes during ion-beam mixing: Model and its experimental verification

We explore the possibility of deforming Gell-Mann-Okubo (GMO) mass formula within the framework of a quantized enveloping algebra. A small value of the deformation parameter is found to provide a good fit to the observed mass spectra of the π, K and η mesons.

We study shallow water equations to derive analytical conditions for the existence of finite amplitude nonlinear wave solutions. The bounded solutions obtained by us include solitary wave, periodic trigonometrical and decaying exponential types.
