Cryphonectria cubensis, recorded for the first time in India, is responsible for causing severe stem cankers in Eucalyptus grandis in Kerala. Disease outbreaks are localised and vary in severity with host species, at times affecting up to 30% of the trees in a stand. Infection usually occurs on the main stem 1 to 1 {\textperiodcentered}5 m above ground and occasionally near ground level. There is evidence of tree to tree spread of the disease from the primary infection foci. The disease also affects coppicing by stumps after harvest. Occurrence of Cryphonectria canker disease of Eucalyptus in Kerala, India

Details are given of the occurrence, symptoms, aetiology, pathogenicity and control of diseases occurring on Tectona grandis, Bombax ceiba [B. malabaricum], Ailanthus triphysa, Gmelina arborea, Dalbergia latifolia, Ochroma pyramidale and Eucalyptus spp. The results of the survey are discussed and appendices provide lists of fungicides evaluated against various pathogens, cultural and morphological characters of fungal and bacterial pathogens and a list of pathogens and their hosts. There is a subject index.

Rhizoctonia solani and Sclerotium rolfsii are newly reported causing a seedling web blight of Eucalyptus and a leaf spot of teak respectively in Kerala, India.

Two mycelia sterilia parasitic on foliage of hardwood seedlings in Kerala state, India

The disease, described, which is common in young plantations in Kerala, caused up to 20% mortality. Surveys and pathogenicity trials suggest that E. tereticornis is more susceptible than E. grandis. Since the disease occurs as a result of wounding, care in weeding and other soil operations is recommended.

A new stem canker disease of Eucalyptus caused by Botryodiplodia theobromae in India

A new leaf disease of Ailanthus triphysa caused by the Colletotrichum state of Glomerella cingulata is reported from India. The disease, characterized by shot holes formed at the site of infection, was prevalent during periods of high humidity.

An outbreak of pink disease caused by Corticium salmonicolor Berk. & Br. in Eucalyptus grandis plantations in Kerala State is reported. The sporadic infection recorded during 1979 spread to an epidemic proportion within four years, affecting more than 50% of trees in the two plantations surveyed.
