Professional Experience
July 2012 till Date: Professor and Head of Department of Arts, Design and Theatre, School of Humanities and Social Sciences.
2008 till July 2012: Worked as a fulltime artist and also visiting faculty and jury member in NIFT (National Institute of Fashion Technology) in Mumbai and Bangalore. Visiting Faculty in Raffle Design (a Singapore Design college) in Mumbai.
2005 - 2007: Director of design studio called Ray Design private Limited, We have done various inter disciplinary activities from event design (Gucci, Calvin Kline, Ethro etc.), Exhibition design, graphic design for national and international clients
2000 -2004: Worked as a freelance designer and artist. Involved in Book designing, theatre set designing, graphic designing, installation art, etc.
Visiting teacher at I.I.T. Kanpur in the design department.
1993 - 1999: Worked as a senior designer in NDTV (New Delhi Television) a reputed television channel in Asia. I was involved in doing virtual/real set design, computer graphics, animation etc.
Exhibition and community Art, Performance and Communication design:
1983 - 1992: Participated in All India group and solo exhibitions
Worked with slum children in Mangolpuri , Delhi and created mural painting on wall along with slum children and lived with them was a part of a project with Sahamat organization was a part of “Apnautsav” in 1992.
Participated in Triennial of India in 1992, New Delhi.
Site specific installation with rock band “Indian Ocean” in British council, New Delhi, 2002.
1993 - solo exhibition in New Delhi in LTG Gallery.
1993 - Participated in group exhibition “the realist” in Jahangir art gallery Mumbai.
Created mural in IIT Kanpur as part of the I.I.T. festival, 2000.
Musical performance, collaboration with eminent film actor Tanishtha Chatterjee and was part of KHOJ annual workshop, in British Council, New Delhi, 2005.
Created ‘public art’ done 200 feet by 12 feet mural, for the public procession on the first death anniversary of Safdar Hashmi.
Collaboration with Professor D.P.Sengupta, renowned children’s book writer on science and a professor of Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. The project on the children of India and Pakistan after Kargil war.
Book illustration for the book called “Chichibaba”.
Theatre and Film Production Design:
I have designed theatre set for renowned theatre director Anamika Haksar for a production called “Viy”written by Nikolai Gogol,1992, ‘Rajdarshan’, 2000
Done theatre production, acting and set design for a play by Pablo Picasso “ A desire caught by the tail”
Hindi translation by Shama Zaidi directed by Avinash Deshpandey, 1999.
Collaborated in Theatre production and set designing with Seema Agrawal a reputed choreographer and Bharatanatyam dancer in the production Rabia (which got two awards in Mahaindra and Mahindra theatre excellence award in 2006)
Worked as a creative/aesthetic director with Rituparna Ghosh (a renowned film director from West Bengal) for his Bengali film called Doshor which was the official entry to Cannes Film Festival.2007. Award at the New York Film Festival in 2007, :Bengal Film Journalists' Association Awards, National Film Award - Special Jury Award.
Collaborated in theater production and set design with Seema Agrawala for a play by Rabindranath Tagore’s Tasher Desh with the students of Rishi Valley School,2011 and a play based on Vikram Seth’s story “Beastly tales”, 2010.
Trained in vocal music in folk and Sufi and Faquiri songs from India.
Learned theatre from renowned teacher and theatre director Barry John.
