Aadya Kaktikar is an Associate Professor in the Department of Art and Performing Arts at the Shiv Nadar University in India. An accomplished Odissi soloist with a career of over two decades, Aadya is also the author of Odissi Yaatra, which documents the revival of Odissi through the work of Guru Mayadhar Raut.
She has an MA in Teaching (Dance) from the Royal Academy of Dance, University of Surrey and is presently pursuing her Doctorate from the Department of Dance at Texas Woman's University. Working at the cusp of education, performance, history, and sociology of dance her research and teaching focus on teaching traditional dance forms in contemporary spaces. Aadya's special areas of interest are curriculum planning and assessment development for the performing arts.
Her research interests include post colonial history of dance and practice based research on dance and dance education.
Aadya is the author of "Odissi Yaatra- journey of Guru Mayadhar Raut". The book documents the revival years of Odissi dance and features a unique collection of rare photographs. The book has been highly praise for its in-depth documentation of previously unrecorded events.
Aadya is an Odissi dancer and a dance educator. For the last two decades, she has performed extensively to critical acclaim and is an ICCR empanelled dance artist. She is currently interested in the pedagogy of teaching dance and her work centres around exploring traditional methodologies of dance training in the contemporary education space. Aadya's special areas of interest are curriculum planning and assessment development for the performing arts.
